Who we are
A public-service museum committed to preserving, researching and sharing a singular cultural legacy.
An institution serving citizens
The National Coach Museum, founded in 1905 by Queen D. Amélia of Orléans, currently carries out its activity with a team of staff motivated to welcome the widest range of audiences, guided by the principle of providing public service to citizens.
In accordance with the principles established by the Portuguese Framework Law on Museums, the museum continues its mission to preserve, research, and disseminate this unique cultural legacy, made up of the world's most important collection of state coaches.
Since 2015, the museum has occupied the new building designed by Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, winner of the Pritzker Prize, conceived to house, conserve, and enhance the collection, providing new conditions for its enjoyment and dissemination to different audiences.
