On 3 November, the National Coach Museum welcomes Acontece Camões, a theatrical production inviting audiences to discover Luís de Camões through a contemporary interpretation of his literary legacy.
Conceived and directed by Paulo Filipe, the performance draws on Camões's lyric, epic and dramatic poetry, as well as his letters, bringing his writing into dialogue with later literary figures who have engaged with and been inspired by his work, including Fernando Pessoa, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Jorge de Sena and Eugénio de Andrade.
Performed by Lídia Franco, Jorge Moniz, Manuel Diogo and Paulo Filipe, the production offers a fresh perspective on Camões's work, highlighting its continuing relevance and expressive power.
Presented as part of the commemorations marking the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís de Camões, the event also supports a charitable cause. All proceeds from ticket donations will go to Alegria de Viver, an organisation dedicated to reducing loneliness, fostering connections between generations and strengthening community ties.
The performance is supported by the Mission Structure for the Commemorations of the Fifth Centenary of the Birth of Luís de Camões.
