Ceremonial vehicle ordered by the Royal House displaying medallions with the shield of the Portuguese Royal Coat of Arms on the side panels and doors.
The box is closed and has red taffeta curtains and gold fringe. It is decorated in the rocaille style with plant motifs and six small medallions with images of castles appearing in the middle. The hood is black leather, with eight gilt bronze knobs and a double line of tack work. The interior is upholstered in red velvet. The front and rear wheel assemblies are connected by two longitudinal side poles running alongside the body, which is supported directly on two heavy-duty leather suspension straps. These straps are tensioned by means of a winding mechanism fitted with a ratchet brake, mounted on the rear running gear.
